Zia Ur Rehman is a journalist and social researcher associated with The Friday Times, Central Asia Online and Weekly Hum Shehri. He regularly write for, among others, CTC Sentinel, a publication of Combating Terrorism Center at West Point, Terrorism Monitor, a publication of Jamestown Foundation, Central Asia Online, The Friday Times, The News, Herald, Himal South Asian and contributed to New York Times.

He has also worked with Open Society Institute, Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) and Labour Education Foundation (LEF). His primary coverage focus has been on conflict and security issues in Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa and FATA, ethnic politics in Karachi, religious militancy, human rights and Pakistani politics. He is expert in to originate report and research and produce news and features, interviews, background analysis, for newspapers and magazines. He belongs from Swat Valley, Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa but lives in Karachi. He did his graduations in Mass Communications and Gender Studies from University of Karachi.
